Week #4

So, I must confess, this probably isn't the REAL week #4. The first week consisted of signing the actual papers and addendums for the home purchase. Week two consisted of just the basic plot being staked out. So week #3 where they actually started to do stuff for our foundation is what is OUR week #1. The other 2 boring weeks don't even count in my book.

Anywho, this week a lot of the details started to come together, like a shingled roof,

some tub/shower combos,

plumbing,

heating/air ducts,

all of the wiring, and yes, our 4th bedroom that was MIA.

It is all starting to feel real to us, and we are super-duper excited for the day when it is complete (which we hope is sooner, rather than later).

Goldilocks

Easton has been learning about bears in his class lately. Recently they read the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, ate "porridge" in class (instant oatmeal), and then they sent home a fun activity to go along with it and a packet of "porridge". Easton loved the porridge at school, and so has been begging me ever since to have some. "Mommy, can I have porridge for breakfast tomorrow?" But then I would forget. "Mommy, can I have porridge for a snack?" But it was almost time for him to get on his bus for school. Finally tonight as we were setting the table for dinner, he asked so sweetly, "Mommy, am I gonna have porridge for dinner?" How could I say no?! After everyone else got dished up for dinner, I made Easton and Luke that little bowl full of porridge. When Luke got his, he said, "My porridge is too hot!" And then we rehearsed at the dinner table what the other bears said. After dinner, Easton was so satisfied that he said, "Thank you for my porridge for dinner, Mommy." And that is a FIRST! Maybe we should have a bowls of porridge for dinner more often.

Week #3

As you can see, a lot of progress has been made over the last week. Scott saw the slab on his way home from work Friday, and then saw a full house on his way to work on Tuesday. They framed and roofed the entire thing over the 3-day weekend. AWESOME! There was a slight glitch, though, when we went to see the house. I walked in, and kept trying to find the 4th door to the 4th optional bedroom upgrade that we had selected. THERE WAS NO 4TH BEDROOM! I was freaked out. I immediately got on it, and the head contractor was there in a matter of minutes to work it out. It will be an easy fix, but I'm glad that I came down this Friday, instead of waiting another week, because by then, it could've been too late. We'll have to make more frequent visits to the house over the next couple of weeks to make sure that everything is going the way it should.

Things I learn from boys

I came from a family of all girls, so this boy thing is still new to me and I have learned a lot from my boys over the years.

1. At a young age, all boys aspire to be a superhero when they grow up.

2. If you want a good laugh, just mention a bodily function.

3. They get over things easily, but they're not too tough yet to still need a kiss from Mom to make it all better.

4. To have a good time, all you need is dirt, or something that can be dirty.

5. Its way easier and faster getting 3 boys ready for church, than 3 girls.

6. Boys are born knowing how to make car, gun, and animal noises.

7. You must always stand at the ready while changing a little boys diapers.

8. The best thing about playing outdoors, is there is always a bathroom close by, and they prefer it that way. Seriously, who needs a toilet, when you've got a bush, a tree, dirt, or snow.

9. Dads make great punching bags, practice dummies, jungle gyms, and catapults.

10. Little boys give just as many hugs, kisses, cuddles, and "I love you's" as little girls do, and we love them just as much in return.

Ladies and Gentleman, we have a slab!

Yes, week #3 went by fast, and the house finally has a complete foundation. The workers said that framing could easily start as soon as today, depending on whether or not our lumber package is delivered on a Saturday. But if not, it will easily resume on Monday, and hopefully I will have pictures of a fully framed house by next Friday. p.s. If you think that is crazy fast, and no house is built in that short amount of time, well, then you have never visited this area of the country. These houses practically put themselves together in no time flat.

Max loves....

....his Grandpa Toolson and warm fuzzy blankets. Put them together, and he is at peace. He really does love his Grandpa, though, and as soon as he gets home from work each day, Max won't let Grandpa out of his sight. He is also the only person that Max will willingly cuddle with. He sleeps with a fuzzy blanket, has fuzzy stuffed animals, and so has developed a love for fuzzy things. Grandma and Grandpa Toolson have fuzzy throw blankets in their living room, and if one is laid on the ground, Max will scurry over to it, and then collapse on it as if to say "I love you fuzzy blanket, let me give you a hug." What a sweet little boy. Maybe he would cuddle with me more often if I wore oversized, lumpy, fuzzy sweaters. Just a thought.

10 months and a foundation

Just some good news to start it off, our foundation has begun! Our house is being built on a slab foundation, so its not done yet, but the footings have been poured, and the trenches for all of the pipes have been dug. Good progess for week #2!

And on another always good note, Max is 10 months now. He now has 5 teeth (working on 6 and 7), wears size 4 diapers (eek!), and cruises around furniture. He crawls in a scurry like a spider, waves his hands and claps delightedly whenever anyone pays him any attention, and is still our smiling, happy boy. Happy 10 months, Max!
